About
About Rent Cap Ready
Free, plain-English tools that help small California landlords follow the statewide rent cap and notice rules.
Why this site exists
Most small landlords manage a few units themselves, without a property manager or a lawyer on call. The rules on rent increases, exemptions, and required notices are spread across several Civil Code sections and change every year. Rent Cap Ready puts the rules in one place and turns them into tools that show their reasoning and cite the law.
Who runs it
Rent Cap Ready is an independent website. It isn't a law firm, and it isn't affiliated with the State of California, the Attorney General, or any city.
How we keep it accurate
- Every rule is checked against the text of the statute, and every figure against the California Attorney General's published caps. The sources page lists each one.
- Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. We review the whole site at least once a year, after the new caps are published each summer, and whenever the law changes.
- Statutory notices reproduce the statute's exact wording. We don't paraphrase them.
- When the law doesn't clearly answer a situation, the tools say so and suggest talking to an attorney.
Corrections
If you find an error, email hello@rentcapready.com with the page and what you believe is wrong. We'll check it against the statute and post the correction in the change log on the sources page.
What we don't do
We don't give legal advice, review leases, or recommend lawyers. For advice about your property, contact a California landlord-tenant attorney or your local landlord association.
